Ilya Sutskever, born on December 8, 1986, is a Russian-Israeli computer scientist specializing in machine learning, known for his significant contributions to deep learning. He co-invented AlexNet, a groundbreaking convolutional neural network, alongside Alex Krizhevsky and Geoffrey Hinton. Sutskever is also a co-founder and former chief scientist at OpenAI, where he played a key role in the 2023 decision to fire CEO Sam Altman, though Altman was reinstated shortly after, leading Sutskever to step down from the board. In June 2024, he co-founded Safe Superintelligence with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy.
